Mrs Beaumont, Mrs Street and Mrs Dean would like to welcome you to Acorn Class, our Nursery at Laindon Park Primary School and Nursery. We want your child's time with us to be happy and rewarding. We aim to teach them through play and hands on activites, which encourage them to work things out, choose and decide themselves and question what they are doing. We hope to help them achieve and improve their self-care skills, as well as learn to treat and care for each other, their surroundings and belongings with kindness and respect.
Our Nursery is a very bright stimulating environment, we strongly believe that nothing is better learned or skills improved than when you are enjoying what you are doing, therefore we want your child to have fun!
Children attend nursery in the term after their 3rd birthday. Our sessions are Monday to Friday 8.45am-11.45am and 12.25pm-3.25pm. Eligible working families can receive 30 hours of free childcare each week. This is an extra 15 hours of free childcare in addition to the universal entitlement. Please follow the instructions of the link to apply https://www.gov.uk/30-hours-free-childcare
Letters to Father Christmas
The children have written their letters to Father Christmas, they have played a hedgehog counting game and we made a magic mixture to clean coins to make them shine.
After listening to the story 'Whatever next' the children decided what they would pack for a trip to the moon, they used their imaginations and went on a trip to the moon using props and finally made marks on shiny tin foil with different writing tools.
This week we have been celebrating the Hindu festival of light called Diwali. All the children worked together to create a large Rangoli pattern. The children retold the story of 'Rama and Sita' using props in the tuff spot. The children drew their own Rangoli patterns in the Nursery garden with chalks.
This week we have been exploring 'Fireworks night' and talking about fireworks safety. We made sparklers decorated with handwriting patterns. We drew firework pictures in the garden with chalks on big pieces of back paper. Finally, after learning about 2D shapes the children made rockets using 2D shapes.

The children have had a fantastic week exploring the story "Room on a Broom" by Julia Donaldson. They made bubbling potions and drew their favourite animals onto a broomstick.
This week the children have been exploring castles and dragons. The children explored the ice in the garden, dressed up as a knight and designed and cut out a dragon's egg with handwriting patterns.
For Mental Health week, we have asked the children to wear something that is special to them or their favourite piece of clothing. They had to explain why it was special .
We also talked about why we need to be physical and then we went outside and moved in different ways to get our hearts beating!!
